A Streetwear Capsule Wardrobe

The capsule wardrobe (also called the basic, or minimalist wardrobe) is essentially a small wardrobe of extremely versatile basics. it’s like having an emergency kit of clothing basics that look great, last forever, and never go out of style — except without the emergency. the idea is that it makes you choose your clothes deliberately, spend less on clothes you’ll never wear, and makes the process of getting dressed in the morning that much easier. You all are probably aware about what streetwear is so let’s not get into that.

If there’s one common misconception about streetwear, it’s that it’s easy. Granted, when confronted with some of high-end menswear’s more complex designs, you’d be forgiven for thinking that street-level dressing is a simple case of jeans, T-shirt, hoodie, trainers and done.

But then consider the number of high fashion designers taking their cue from streetwear culture right now – from Virgil Abloh’s OFF-WHITE, to Riccardo Tisci’s output at Givenchy, to every luxury player pushing their own take on iconic sneaker designs for the past few seasons.

The truth is that putting together a strong outfit – streetwear or no – calls for smart judgement, as well as a solid selection of staples that you can build upon as your wardrobe grows.

In case you’re new to capsule wardrobes, it’s basically a reduced wardrobe that has been curated to fit your personal style. The pieces are selected with intention and all of them work well together. The point is to make it easier for you to get dressed in the morning, keep your wardrobe uncluttered, and make you feel better and more confident in what you’re wearing. . I decided to put together a simple, year-round capsule wardrobe for men! It’s made up of 35 basic pieces which I think make a great foundation to build upon in your wardrobe or just use as a standalone closet year-round.

The pieces in this wardrobe are meant to be functional and appropriate for a variety of occasions, from casual daytime looks to the office to special occasions. It should also carry you pretty well through all four seasons of the year, depending on what part of the world you live in. I’ve included some outfit ideas as well to give you some inspiration. Outfit one

This is something you can wear down at the beach or at a barbeque with tender meat on your plate and a beer in your hand.

Outfit two

Such an outfit should work on a chilly afternoon grabbing brunch with your significant other. Classy but not extra. Can also be worn to work.

Something like this would work very well at a sports game, having a good time with your mates

Outfit four

I call this a movie outfit. A cosy hoodie, sweats and sliders.

Outfit five

The work outfit. With casual streetwear being accepted as an appropriate outfit in a workplace, this is one which can be worn. The cool colours really bring out a pleasant look, soothing for your eyes.

These items are meant to be more of a guideline, so you can feel free to switch up the colours or brands to fit your style. And if there’s one thing I learned from binge watching Tan France on Queer Eye, when it comes to men’s clothing, the most important thing is fit. You want to make sure that your shirts and pants fit you well, and aren’t too small or, as is more often the case, too big. Happy Hunting!
