Fashion is like 2020, you never know what can happen. It is ever changing and evolving continuously. What is also true about fashion is that it takes place in cycles. This means that trends from different eras tend to repeat themselves. This happens because people get bored of the existing trends and simply want a change. Another reason is that newer generations draw inspiration from the older generations and explore different aesthetics. Some retro trends have comeback and us millennials just cannot get enough of it. So here are some of the classics that made a comeback.
1. Jeans
The Fever of Flared Jeans
This trend has many forms; flared, bell bottoms, wide-legged, etc. Initially designed for sailors, this soon became a fashion trend in the 1970s. Cut to 2019, we see a transformation from skinny fit jeans to high waisted flared jeans & pants. Back then this pattern was adorned by both, men and women. However, currently it is being fancied mainly by women. It can be seen in various lengths and widths depending on people’s personal preferences. You can pair them with literally anything; crop tops, shirt, t-shirt; put on a broad belt, hoops & a sleek pair of heels and you’re good to go! These jeans are super comfortable and chic at the same time. It can take any form and make you look like a diva!
The very cool Mom Jeans
Mom jeans was not created for ‘mothers’ particularly but it was the first kind of jeans made for women by Levi’s. Women started wearing it because that was the only option they had back then. This trend dates back to the late 50s and early 60s when women mostly took care of the household chores. These jeans became the go to apparel for them and hence the name, Mom Jeans. It is characterized by a relaxed/loose fit with straight legs and a high rise on the waist. This cool look made a comeback in streetwear styling and is often seen to be worn by ‘non-moms’. The easiest way to go about it is pairing them with a baggy/loose t-shirt, a matching tan of belt and boots.
2. Fanny Packs
Fanny packs are also known as bump bags, want to know why? Well an Australian woman in 1962, got inspired from the kangaroo pouches and came up with this bag. From a convenience bag, they soon became a part of fashion statement in the 80s & 90s. This small, convenient and extremely stylish bag is back in trend. It can be worn around the waist or across the shoulder. They can be found in local stores and high-end brands like Gucci. This bag is the most commonly used accessory in streetstyle. It can make an ordinary outfit look uber cool.
3. Tiny Sunglasses
The last time you saw these funk bombs would be in a 90s Bollywood movie where Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan would play the handsome hunks or Kareena Kapoor’s iconic role of a diva. These sunglasses only serve the purpose of upping your fashion game as they don’t happen to protect your eyes. They made a comeback in summer 2018 where various style icons like Gigi Hadid, Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh were spotted wearing them. Since then, they have become a part of street style again. They come in a variety of shapes (cat-eye, round, triangular, etc.) and vibrant colour tints which make them so funky and street. It is a summer must have.
4. Puffy Sleeves
There is nothing that says carefree yet elegant like puffy sleeves and that’s what the modern women of today want. They also, come in different shapes like Peasant Puff and Bishop Puff. Puffy sleeves are a fashion of the 1800s however, today they can be seen with a modern twist. They are a part of blouses and dresses. The most recent trend is a netted puffy sleeve with a sleek fit at the torso. You can wear them with a pair of regular fit jeans, statement jewellery & a clutch for a casual outing or with a pant and minimalistic jewellery for a formal meeting.
5. Monochrome
In the 1960s, people believed in wearing the same colour for the whole outfit. This trend lasted for a very long time until the idea of contrast came in. Then people started experimenting with different colour combinations and went on a self-exploration journey. So why is monochrome coming back in trend? Its simply because people are shifting to minimalism. Moreover, monochrome gives a distinct identity to people and makes them stand out without being flashy. The best way to carry it is to makes sure you have different tones of the same colour in your outfit.
